If you want the simplest way to reduce lag spikes, Ethernet is still the benchmark. Wi‑Fi can be great, but it has more variables: airtime congestion, walls, interference, and router placement.
Ethernet (wired)
- Strength: stable latency and minimal jitter.
- Strength: predictable performance even when other devices are active.
- Weakness: cables are inconvenient and sometimes impossible to run cleanly.
Wi‑Fi (wireless)
- Strength: convenience and flexible device placement.
- Strength: modern Wi‑Fi can be very fast in clean conditions.
- Weakness: more sensitive to interference and household traffic.
If you cannot run a cable
- Move the router: height and central placement help.
- Use 5 GHz or 6 GHz when stable.
- Avoid playing on weak signal areas behind multiple walls.
